Best Books of the Year, WAPO Edition

Garrow Rising StarIt's hard for me to believe that 2017 is so far along that we're getting ready for the end-of-year celebrations — like lists of the best books of the year.  I want to call attention the Washington Post's recent list of "best books of the year."  I'm delighted that David Garrow's Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama is on the list.  I had the pleasure of reading much (I can't confess to have read all 1500 pages) of it last summer when I was in Philly.  Of course I 'm deeply interested in Obama's intellectual origins.

Thank God for President Obama. I am able to tell my child this is what a real President is supposed to act and look like. A role model…there was not one iota of scandal, dishonesty, corruption. He was a total leader. He truly tried to do what was best for the entire nation. His signature health care plan gave coverage to millions and it was based on a "conservative" market based model. I miss him everyday.
