Position Summary: The Temple University Beasley School of Law solicits applications for a tenure-eligible professor of legal research and writing (LRW), as well as for a contract professor of LRW. Temple’s LRW Program is highly-regarded and nationally ranked, and offers professors the same benefits and privileges as other law school faculty including: participation in faculty governance, funding for professional development and conferences, and summer grants and other support for the production of scholarship. LRW faculty teach a two-semester first-year course integrating legal research, legal writing, and oral advocacy skills. Each faculty member is responsible for one section of the LRW course with approximately 30-35 students, as well as teaching an upper level seminar. The LRW Program has no director, and faculty have a great deal of curricular freedom, centered around a set of shared goals for the program.
Qualifications: The minimum qualifications for the tenure-eligible position are: 1) demonstrated excellence in teaching legal research and writing; 2) a record of significant scholarly achievement, established through the authorship of professional works published in law journals or comparable publications; 3) a strong reputation in the national LRW community; 4) a record of excellent service to the applicant’s current and/or prior institutions; and 5) significant relevant practice experience.
The minimum qualifications for the contract position are a J.D., an excellent academic record, law practice experience, and a strong commitment to excellent teaching and to producing high-quality legal scholarship. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated excellence in LRW teaching and published scholarship.
