University of Cologne Seeks Chair for US Law

This just in:

In the upcoming months, the University of Cologne, Germany, https://www.uni-koeln.de/en/ will be posting a full-time professorship on the Faculty of Law,  https://jura.uni-koeln.de/en/ .  Currently, our faculty is looking for expressions of interest from US law professors to take over the Chair for US Law https://us-recht.jura.uni-koeln.de/en/chair and  the Environmental Law Center https://elc.uni-koeln.de/en/ from me when I retire.  I will be retiring sometime within the next year, with the exact date to be negotiated so as to make a smooth transition to my successor.  The Faculty's call will be circulated formally through standard German channels, and that is why the Law Faculty first wants expressions of interest, so that it can directly work with US law professors.  Salary is negotiable.

The Professor is free to teach in any areas in the US Law Certificate Program https://us-recht.jura.uni-koeln.de/en/us-law-cusl, including but not limited to Evidence, Torts, Civil Procedure, or Constitutional Law.  There is also a need to teach environmental law, but it is not essential to this position.  There are two full-time US lecturers and two part-time US adjuncts also currently teaching US law in the program, making for a collegial environment.  The Certificate Program has already been completed by more than 700 students in the past sixteen years, and each semester approximately 200 students take US law courses in our program, alongside their regular German law study.  Through the Erasmus exchange program, many international students from elsewhere in Europe also take part in the Certificate program.  The students in the program are advanced law students who are eager to learn US law and a pleasure to teach.  A knowledge of the German language is not essential.

Cologne is a city with a young, international and culturally diverse population of nearly 100,000 students among its one million citizens.  In recent semesters, our Environmental Law Center has hosted young visiting scholars from Albania, India, Nigeria, Poland, Uganda and the UK.  The UNFCCC Secretariat, just one of 26 UN agencies in Bonn, is only thirty minutes away.

Interested persons should send expression of interest to me at  kirk.junker@uni-koeln.de.
