March Madness!

March – the month when one of the more exciting spectacles in sport kicks off:  the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament.

March – the month when one of the most emotionally-draining, nerve-wracking, patience-testing,  depressing-or-exhilarating events in the life of
aspiring and current legal academics takes place:   the law review submission season.

So let’s combine the two to create the following questionnaire:

1) How many articles have you placed with a journal affiliated with a college represented in this year's tournament?

2) Of those articles, where is your highest placement, based on this year’s tournament seedings?

3) Of those articles, where is your lowest placement, based on this year’s tournament seedings?

4) If you submitted a manuscript this month, did your initial wave include more, or fewer, than 64 teams  journals?  (I oppose the “play-in” game, so I use 64 rather than 65.)

5) If you submitted a manuscript this month, how many rejections have you already received from journals affiliated with a college represented in this year’s tournament?

6) Of those rejections, where are your highest and lowest seeded rejections?

7) If you have submitted a manuscript this month, how many offers have you already received from journals affiliated with a college represented in this year’s tournament?

8) Of those offers, where are your highest and lowest seeded offers?

2) #3 seed (tie).
3) #9 seed.
4) Fewer than 64.

6) #5 seed and #9 seed.
7) Zero (but I’m hoping that changes before the tournament concludes!).
8) N/A.
9) Missouri.  I grew up in the small town of Warrenton, listening to “Big 8” games on KMOX radio when Norm Stewart prowled the sidelines, coaching against Ted Owen at KU and Jack Hartman at K-State.
