In further preparation for Tim's forthcoming Oscar Trivia, people may be interested in the Golden Globe nominees (often good predictors of the Oscars or so the collective wisdom goes). A list of the nominees is here. Anyone want to engage in picking the winners? I still haven't seen Black Swan or The Fighter, but I hear both are worth a look. Also, any thoughts on The Tourist? Johnny Depp usually picks interesting movies, but the trailer for that one looked pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Black Swan and The Kings Speech were the best movies I saw all year. The Fighter was good, but not quite to the same quality. I think the Social Network was an important movie for a lot of reasons, but it wasn't great. That said, Sorkin is a lock for screenplay. Other than that, I'm mostly just hoping for a Best Picture nomination for Toy Story 3, now that they nominate 10 ๐

You really think Emma Stone has a chance, Jeff? Easy A was a cute movie and all, but award material? (Although I guess it's hard for me to say because it's the only performance I've seen in that category and the others may have been really bad…)
Of course, having just said that, I see that Easy A won the Best Comedy Award at the critics choice awards last night. List of the other winners at: http://www.examiner.com/tv-in-boston/critics-choice-movie-awards-2011-photos-winners-and-natalie-portman-pregnant
Jacqueline,
I didn't say that it was award material – just that it was my prediction. I haven't seen the movie, but I imagine that it was cute, though not great. The Hollywood Foreign Press loves shaking things up … surprising people. I did see odds favorite Annette Benning – a solid performance, but it strikes me that she wasn't really the lead in that movie – more Julianne Moore. Take it all w/ a grain of salt – I'm not known for being particularly good at such predictions and usually lose the Yates household competition.
Jeff: I daresay you may just be right about that. I guess we don't have long to wait to find out…
