For those of you who haven't noticed, the nomination of UC Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu to the Ninth Circuit died at year's end. In exchange for passing over Liu and several other nominees, the President managed to score 19 appointments before the end of 2010. Overall, he did quite poorly in getting judges confirmed: according to the WSJ, President Obama got 62 judges approved in his first Congress compared to 100 for President George W. Bush.
Don't be surprised if Liu is renominated this year.
After the way in which Liu mischaracterized Alito and Roberts' records while opposing their nominations, I think he deserved to be passed over.
