Vojdik From West Virginia to Tennessee

Manegold_Glory's_Shadow Valorie Vojdik, who is currently associate dean for faculty development and research and a professor at the University of West Virginia, has accepted a tenured offer from the University of Tennessee.   Val, who writes about constitituional law and gender and military law, among many other subjects, is perhaps best known as the lawyer who led the integration (in terms of gender) of The Citadel.  She's also a key character in Catherine Manegold's book In Glory's Shadow: The Citadel, Shannon Faulkner, and a Changing America (Random House, 2001), a book I highly recommend — along with Catherine's more recent Ten Hills Farm.

Some years ago I remember talking with Catherine about The Citadel case and she said of Val something along these lines, "in years of working as a reporter from a newspaper in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, to the New York Times, I've covered hundreds of cases and I've never seen anyone who can light up a courtroom like Val."  UT's indeed fortunate to be gaining her talents.
