Total Debt of 2010 Law Grads Is $3.6 Billion

The analysis is here.  Brian Tamanaha discusses the use orf  loan caps on students or schools as a way of reducing the amount of federally backed debt provided to law students.

Interestingly, with all the discussion about whether we produce more law grads than lawyer jobs, the University of Texas School of Law  reports that about 1/3 of its living alumni no longer practice law.

"the University of Texas School of Law reports that about 1/3 of its living alumni no longer practice law."

Why is this interesting? Once you account for retirees and stay-at-home spouses, wouldn't it be totally expected that a huge chunk of "living" alumni don't work at all, much less practice law? Now, if that figure is for alumni currently in the workforce (or trying to be), then that's a different issue (and one that would be interesting, indeed).
