When I posted the picture of occupy Chapel Hill earlier today I hadn't yet realized that Kim Krawiec's recent scholarship ("Don't screw 'Joe the Plummer': The Sausage-Making of Financial Reform") was being put to use by the occupy SEC crowd – and the Huffington Post.
Krawiec discussed with the Huffington Post her analysis of the 8000 comments the SEC received on the Volker Rule:
[M]any of the letters from the public were relatively unsophisticated — vague about the substance of the Volcker rule and full of ad hominem attacks — whereas the letters from banking insiders were "meticulously drafted, argued, and researched," according to Krawiec's analysis.
"Your average person will find it very difficult to understand and comment on the issues here," Krawiec told HuffPost, noting that a thorough parsing of the Volcker rule "requires an understanding that quite frankly only industry insiders have."
h/t to my colleague Bill Turnier.
Thanks for the press mention, Al (and Bill). 🙂
