Deferred Action Clinics in South Florida…

Kudos to student activist groups like SWER (Students Working for Equal Rights)  and United We DREAM for their efforts that led to President Obama's announcement two months ago to allow undocumented minors to nomalize their status. As many of us know, the Obama administration announced it would use the president's executive power to alllow DREAM Act eligible youngsters to adjust their status to avoid deportation, and eventaully obtain work permits. Over the last two months, young adults around the country have led an education campaign to assist in the application process that commenced just a few days ago on August 15th. In South Florida, a handful of volunteer attorneys and professors have partnered with Americans for Immigrant Justice to prepare to provide free clinics to DREAM eligible youngsters. Though we have been meeting regularly for two months now, tomorrow begins our first Deferred Action clinic. We will be holdings these clinics at several Florida locations over the next several months and hope to help thousands.
