Civil War Building Trivia

Well, here's a photograph from south of the Mason-Dixon Line
PA110674 of a building that was occupied by General Grant for a time.  Where is it?  (And what's its pre-war history?  This is on a spot of substantial importance for decades, I guess really centuries, before the war.)

Could this be President Tyler's home?

I believe that's Appomattox Manor – Grant's Headquarters in the City Point area of Hopewell, Virginia, where the Appomattox meets the James.

Close, Calvin. Tyler's house looks like this (as I recall) and it is along the James. But Owen's got this — it's Grant's Headquarters at City Point. You can see I guess it's the James in the distant background. This place has been occupied since the middle of the 17th century. It's well worth the short detour off of I-95 next time you're on the road from Petersburg to Richmond.
