Well, it's snowing today in Chapel Hill — coming down like I haven't ever seen before south of the Mason-Dixon line in the, geeze, I guess more than 20 years I've lived in the south. So as I sit here looking out my office window at what looks like a scene from a Currier and Ives print I thought I'd post a Civil War monument trivia question from the North. Digging deep into my stock of photographs here. Where is this?
Camp Randall Memorial Arch at the University of Wisconsin Madison. The bird atop the arch is Old Abe, "The War Eagle".

Umm – about a quarter mile from my office…. 🙂
Well, that didn't take long, did it?! Yes–it's the monument to Camp Randall. (Which, as I learned when I visited Madison is also the name of the football stadium, no?) I didn't know the eagle had a name.
This combines two of my favorite topics — monuments and universities.
