Tyler Cowen Pepper Sprayed In Class

Tyler_cowen_gmuFrom the department of weird.  Professor Tyler Cowen of George Mason Law was teaching Law and Literature yesterday when a man walked in and attempted to take him into custody via a citizen's arrest.  When Cowen did not comply, the man pepper sprayed him.  The sprayer was subsequently arrested.

Details here and here.

On an entirely unrelated note, it is intriguing that a law professor with  a Ph.D in economics (and no JD) is teaching Law and Literature in a law school.

Citizens arrest for teaching law without a law license?

Weird all around. Cowen's appointment is in the econ department, not the law school, though he could have a joint or courtesy appointment, I suppose. http://economics.gmu.edu/people/tcowen

Nonetheless, it is still intriguing that he is teaching law and literature.

Intriguing? Aren't appointments like that commonplace these days?

I don't think it's the law part that is intriguing. He obviously has something to say on law and economics. It's the literature part. Who knew?
