Now here's a courthouse that looks like, well, a courthouse. Where is it?

Love this one. It's a beautiful sight. And I think it's Chatham, Virginia's Pittsylvania County Courthouse. Am I right? What were you doing there, Al Brophy?

You're the best, Martha! Got that exactly right. I took this on the same trip I took the pictures of Danville (and Yanceyville, North Carolina, too). This was just a day trip a couple weeks back to do some sightseeing. The real attraction was the last White House of the Confederacy in Danville, which is now an art museum. I'm interested in collecting photographs of various ends of the line of the Confederacy — that battle at Five Forks near Dinwiddie, which set in motion the retreat from Petersburg, Appomattox, Danville, and Durham Station. The latter, I guess, was really the end point. But there's something particularly poignant about Danville.

But I do want to go back to both Danville and Pittsylvania County to do some work on probate in the pre-War era (Lynchburg, too). Or maybe I'll just get the microfilm records from the Virginia State Library….

    Martha, why were you there?
