Cardozo Law School is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) for a two-year appointment beginning August 2017. Cardozo VAPs spend four semesters in residence at the law school, preparing for entry into the tenure-track teaching market. The position provides promising legal scholars a supportive academic environment, the opportunity to devote substantial time to research and writing, and valuable teaching experience. VAPs participate in the faculty workshop series, conferences, colloquia, and other facets of the intellectual life of the law school, and in general are treated as regular tenure-track faculty (albeit with a reduced teaching load and no administrative/committee obligations). VAPs are given the opportunity to present works in progress to our faculty and to receive feedback and mentoring from faculty members in preparation for the academic job market.
Ours has been a very successful VAP program. Several permanent members of our faculty began as VAPs, and Cardozo VAPs have also gone on to teach at other well-respected law schools, including NYU, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Illinois, DePaul, Tennessee, Iowa, and Roger Williams.
VAPs are provided an office, administrative support, and a budget for conferences and research expenses, earn a competitive salary, and receive health and dental benefits. Applicants should be law school graduates with a commitment to scholarship and teaching. Cardozo is dedicated to building a diverse faculty that will enable the school and its students to thrive in a multicultural environment, and we strongly encourage applications from women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and members of other groups that have traditionally been underrepresented in law teaching. Applications should include the applicant’s CV, law school transcript, a statement of the applicant’s research and teaching interests, and a list of references. (No letters of recommendation need be sent; we will contact references as necessary.) Please submit these no later than Friday, March 31, 2017 to Michelle Nguyen at michelle.nguyen@yu.edu.
