Debating Freedom and Slavery at Washington College

I have the pleasure of speaking on the intellectual culture at pre-Civil War Washington College on September 29.  I discussed the anti-slavery ideas of President Henry Ruffner and then the shift to proslavery ideas when George Junkin became president in 1849.  Here's a link to the youtube broadcast of the talk.  I have the paper that's based on up at ssrn.
