Elon Law School Hiring

Elon University School of Law seeks to hire two entry-level/junior-lateral tenure-track faculty members for the start of the 2018-2019 academic year, one with focus in criminal law and evidence and possibly criminal procedure, and one with a focus in property law, wills and trusts and estates law.  Experience in other subject matter areas may be considered.  Elon Law has adopted an innovative 2.5-year curriculum that focuses on student development and is intentional about blending legal doctrine, writing, and practice skills.  As such, the law school is interested in candidates with an openness to teaching innovation as well as great promise for scholarly distinction, as demonstrated through strong early scholarship or a thoughtful research agenda. Required qualifications include a J.D. or equivalent law degree, outstanding academic credentials, and substantive practice experience.

Elon Law also seeks to hire a Director of Residencies. The Director of Residencies conceives, manages, supervises, and otherwise is responsible for administration of Elon Law’s signature Residency-in-Practice program.  This appointment will be either as a faculty member with administrative responsibilities or as an administrator with faculty rank, depending on qualifications and experience.  The Director’s primary duties are to oversee this signature program and teach doctrinal courses depending on experience and interest.  The Director also will oversee other experiential courses such as externships. The Director will have a JD and significant experience as a faculty member teaching and supervising students in experiential placements.

An equitable, inclusive and diverse campus and curriculum are critical to our educational mission. Therefore Elon Law is committed to enhancing equity, inclusion and diversity, including our capacity for teaching students from all backgrounds.

Recruitment and hiring is subject to approval by the University’s Provost.  Please send your application or any inquiries regarding these positions to Professor Steve Friedland, Chair of the Faculty Recruitment Committee, at sfriedland2@elon.edu.
