Asher Durand’s Progress (The Advance of Civilization)

Asher Durand’s Progress is now in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  Previously, Progress was in the private collection of Jack Warner of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  There is a story about in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.  It was the most expensive VMFA … forty million dollars. 

Ten years ago I published the Progress when I published “Property and Progress: Antebellum Landscape Art and Property Law” in the McGeorge Law Review.
