Co-written with guitarist Steve Cropper, "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" was released a few months after Otis Redding died in a plane accident in December 1967. It was Redding's ony number one hit, and the only posthumous release ever to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
