Another Tribute to Karen Daniel (1957 – 2019)

Here is another tribute to my late colleague Karen Daniel, who was struck and killed by an automobile on December 26. Karen had devoted her career to the wrongfully convicted, and had achieved as many exonerations as perhaps any attorney in the United States. This order by the chief judge of the Illinois Court of Claims provided compensation to one of Karen's clients, whose convictions she had gotten overturned and for whom she obtained a "certificate of innocence" (name and other details redacted at client's request):

It seems that I cannot expand the image while keeping it readable, so here is what Judge Birnbaum said about Karen:

"The Court also wishes to acknowledge the tragic passing of attorney Karen Daniel only days after this petition was filed. Ms. Daniel was one of the truly great advocates for those wrongly convicted. She will be missed. We offer our condolences to her family and friends."
