Thanks, Steve! You might (or might not?) be interested to know that in1969, a group formed in Nova Scotia called Everyday People. They were quite big in the Maritime Provinces. In ‘71, they released a cover of Sly’s song, which ended up being a bigger hit for us than the original.

I couldn’t find a clip of them doing “Everyday People”, but this was another of their (local) hits. At the time, this was the epitome of cool for me!
