Thanksgiving

In addition to everything else, I am grateful for great writing, as in this passage i just read in Kevin Boyle’s The Shattering: America in the 1960s:

The headliners at the Trips Festival (San Francisco, January 1966) were “The Grateful Dead, fronted by that Garcia kid who used to hang around Kesey’s house; and Big Brother and the Holding Company, who could have used a better vocalist, if only one were available.”

[For those who are too young – or too old – to remember, Big Brother found a pretty good vocalist that June.]

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night.
And if you go no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone

    Wild thing.
    You make my heart sing.
    You make everything.
    Groovy.
    Wild thing.
    C'mon c'mon wild thing.
    Wild thing.
