"Crying Time" was written and released by Buck Owens in 1964 as the B side to his boisterous hit "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail." Ray Charles released his version of "Crying Time" in 1966 to much greater acclaim, sort of a follow up to his pathbreaking album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. Charles's single charted on the Pop, R&B, and Easy Listening lists (but embarrassingly, not on the Country list), and won two Grammys in R&B categories. There have been plenty of covers of the Ray Charles version and plenty of duets, including one with Buck Owens. The audio of Charles's Grammy winner is at the bottom of the post, as is Owens's original.
Another good series of versions of a classic song.
The Buck Owens version is a typical example of what is known as the "Bakersfield Sound" (from Bakersfield CA)
