Careless Love

"Careless Love" is a traditional American folk song, although it was copyrighted in the 1920s by W.C. Handy. More than the usual number of audio clips on this post; so many interesting interpretations by well known artists (and a few others).

Janis Joplin at the Coffee Gallery in 1963. The guitarist is possibly Jorma Kaukonen; he often accompanied her in those days, but I have not been able to determine if this is one of their performances together.

Sam Chatmon was the last survivor of the Mississippi Sheiks, who recorded in the 1930s:
