Call to Regulate the Australian Fertility Industry

A woman who thinks that she may have as many as 700 donor siblings is calling for greater regulation of the Australian fertility industry. From the story:

"He has mental illness and did when he was donating – he had told me all the seven fake names that he used at ten different places, so that could be ten times, ten times seven because of the ten family guideline limit," she said. . .

[S]o my estimate of 700 is conservative in some ways and only accounts for being in Victoria."

The story reminded me of a recent episode of the Taboo Trades podcast, Families By Agreement, with Brian Bix. In it, you can hear my co-host, Alexa Rothborth (UVA Law ’25) discuss with Brian her own discovery of her donor dad and (numerous) donor siblings. You can listen to that episode in the embedded player below (or on apple, Spotify, and the other usual suspects).
