Academic collaborations sometimes begin in disagreement. June Carbone and Clare Huntington approached the legal rights of unmarried fathers from different perspectives, but their debate ultimately produced “Fatherhood, Family Law, and the Crisis of Boys and Men.”
In this episode of Taboo Trades, June explains how the collaboration developed and why she believes the problems facing blue-collar men are inseparable from larger changes in the economy. We then turn to what family law might do—through less punitive child-support policies, greater family autonomy, and voluntary community-based services—to help fathers remain connected to their children.
