Lupinus Texensis

The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas.   Probably the most popular species is the lupinus texensis.  Blossoms are deep blue, and often hundreds or even thousands bloom next to each other to form a beautiful tapestry of color.  This is the time of year when the bluebonnets are most picturesque, and photographers — professional and amateur alike — often use the flowers as a backdrop for capturing family memories.  Two recent examples are below the fold.

And contrary to popular urban legend, it is not illegal to pick bluebonnets in Texas.  Press release here.
