Brooke Overby (1960-2009)

Boverby Tulane law professor Brooke Overby has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 49.

Professor Overby graduated first in her law class at Iowa in 1987, where she served as a senior articles editor for the law review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.  Following a judicial clerkship with Judge Richard Cardamone on the Second Circuit, she specialized in finance and banking law for two years with Mayer, Brown & Platt.  She joined the Tulane law faculty in 1990 and taught in the areas of consumer and commercial law.  Professor Overby was a visiting professor at Notre Dame in 2002 and a Fulbright Scholar in Beijing in 2004.  Her scholarship placements included, among others, the Fordham, Temple, Alabama, Boston College, and Wake Forest law reviews.  Like many of us, she caught the "blogging bug" and was a contributor at the popular "Commercial Law" website.  She was presently serving as an executive member of the AALS Section on Commercial and Related Consumer Law.  A more complete profile can be found here.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Professor Overby's family, the Tulane community, and her extended circle of personal friends and professional colleagues.

Sad news indeed. A loss to Tulane, the academy, and most importantly her loved ones.

I worked with Brooke Overby when we were associates at Mayer Brown's Chicago office in 1989-90. She was brilliant, witty and lively. It is very said that she has died so young.
