From the Leiter Reports to the New York Times

EJILAdam Liptak has an article in today's New York Times on the criminal libel trial in France of NYU Law Professor Joseph Weiler.  Liptak observes that "Brian Leiter, a law professor at the University of Chicago, assessed Ms. Calvo-Goller’s case on his blog on philosophy and academic freedom. 'The author has obviously done more damage to her reputation by making this criminal complaint than would have been possible by any book review, let alone the one in question,' he wrote."

I wrote about this as well last February.  The brief version of this bizarre story is that Professor Weiler is book reviews editor of the European Journal of International Law.  The author of a book didn't like the review of her book that was posted on globallawbooks.org and she filed a criminal libel complaint against Weiler when he refused to take down the offending review.  Wow.
