That's the question that Reuben Seay's gravestone in the Greenboro, Alabama cemetery asks. While it might fit very well with the era of the market revolution, I suspect it's more a reference to 1 Samuel 12:3 (thanks to Kindra for getting me pointed on the right track). Now, whether that was a text made popular by the market revolution….
The latter hypothesis is particularly supported by the inscription: All the law is fulfilled in one word even in this, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. (Galatians 5:14)
A while back I posted about a grave monument put up by a business partner in Richmond's Shockoe Hill Cemetery. This summer I think I want to post a few other gravestones I've come across over the years, including one that I am curious if it hints at a same-sex relationship in the late 19th and early 20th century.
I think it is 1 Samuel 12:3 (not verse 23)?
