Lateral Faculty Hiring: Hofstra Law

This just in:

HOFSTRA LAW SCHOOL seeks nominations and applications for the Howard Lichtenstein Distinguished Professorship in Legal Ethics. This professorship is designed to advance the study, teaching, and practice of legal ethics and professional responsibility. Our Institute for the Study of Legal Ethics, which the Lichtenstein Professor will direct, was recently renamed to honor our late colleague, Monroe Freedman. The dean has set a goal to raise $1 million to support the work of the Institute. To date, more than $500,000 has been pledged.

To fill the position, we are looking for a distinguished scholar and teacher who will spearhead academic conferences and other programs designed to promote Hofstra’s longstanding commitment to the field of legal ethics. Applicants should have a distinguished record of academic achievement, superior teaching ability, and significant experience in the study and teaching of legal ethics, as well as prominence in the professional ethics community. We have an institutional commitment to a diverse faculty, and particularly welcome applications from women and members of minority groups. Please send applications or nominations to Professor Linda Galler, Chair, Faculty Appointments Committee: by email, Linda.Galler@hofstra.edu; by regular mail, Hofstra University School of Law, 121 Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY 11549.

$52,190 per year for a school with cratering LSAT requirements, and laughable bar passage and job placement statistics.

    Legal ethics indeed.

A few years back they advertised that they need adjuncts for the summer semester for select areas. I wrote to them and never rec'd a response. I emailed them again asking if they rec'd my application – again no response. Same thing happened the following year so I forgot about them. Weird thing is, I have published law review articles on the specific topic they were looking to hire and I have extensive teaching experience at a prestigious law school teaching courses on the topic (I was looking to visit NYC and figured I would combine teaching in the summer with a visit). Its one thing not to be interested – maybe they have a faculty member or a friend they want to give a course to – but not to respond to my inquiry whether they rec'd my application?? Totally unprofessional. I would never deal with them again.
