CFP: Emancipate the Scope of Family Law (AALS Annual Meeting)

This just in:

The AALS Section on Family and Juvenile Law Call for Papers for the 2027 AALS Annual Meeting: Emancipate the Scope of Family Law

Many of today’s most pressing legal and policy debates directly implicate the family, but in ways that transcend narrow conceptions of the law of family relations. This year’s panel aims to explore expansive understandings of family law that push the field beyond traditional normative frameworks. We welcome scholarly papers that address contemporary challenges and paths forward in the intersecting fields of law that govern family life in the United States. Some of those diverse fields may include immigration law, criminal law and procedure, health, education, housing, and disability law, the regulation of sexual orientation and gender identity, federal and state constitutional law, and state and local courts. Submissions may address historical developments, emerging trends, reform proposals, or theoretical critiques, and may employ doctrinal, empirical, comparative, or interdisciplinary approaches.

Please submit an abstract of 500 words or less to Stephanie Tang (Stephanie_Tang@baylor.edu) and Laura Savarese (laura.savarese@law.msu.edu). We welcome submissions from junior faculty and scholars at all stages of their careers. The due date for submission is August 1, 2026.
